Pick a model and see the lowest current prices on eBay, where workshop clearances and trade upgrades put these on the market constantly. Prices are pulled live, so what you see is what sellers are actually asking this minute.
Live from eBayThe fence is the tool. A table saw is a motor, a top and a fence, and the fence is what decides whether the thing cuts straight. Ask the seller to lock it at a measured distance and check it is the same front and back. A worn or bent rail is not economically repairable on a jobsite saw, and it is the single most common reason a cheap one stays cheap.
Check the arbor before the motor. Motors on these are simple and last, but a bent arbor puts a wobble into every cut and cannot be tuned out. Ask for a photo with a blade fitted and the guard off, and look for the blade sitting square to the top.
The guard, the riving knife and the push stick go missing. They are the parts that get taken off on day one and lost by year two, they are what stops a kickback putting the workpiece through a wall, and replacing them costs real money. A saw arriving complete is worth noticeably more than the same saw without them.
On a mitre saw, work the detents. The stops at 45 and 90 should click and hold with no play. Worn detents mean every angle needs setting by hand, which defeats the point of the tool. Sliding models have rails as well, and those should glide without notchiness.
Shipping is the hidden cost. These are heavy and awkward, so many sell for collection only and the good prices are local. Read the listing for freight before deciding anything is a bargain, because a $200 saw with $150 of freight is a $350 saw.
Value. The professional cabinet saws hold their money for decades because the castings outlive everything bolted to them. Jobsite models fall hard in the first few years and then flatten, which is where buying secondhand pays best, and it is what the prices above show.

The fence. Ask the seller to lock it at a measured distance and confirm it reads the same front and back. A bent rail is not economically repairable on a jobsite saw and is the most common reason a cheap one is cheap.
The blade guard, the riving knife and the push stick, in that order. They come off on day one and are lost by year two, they are the parts that stop a kickback, and replacing them costs real money.
Work the detents. The stops at 45 and 90 should click and hold with no play, because worn ones mean setting every angle by hand. On sliding models the rails should glide smoothly rather than notch.
Freight. These are heavy and awkward, so a lot of the good prices are collection only. A $200 saw with $150 of freight is a $350 saw, and the totals here include shipping where the seller states it.
