Pick a MacBook Air or Pro model (M1, M2, M3) and see the lowest current prices on eBay, the biggest used-Mac market, with shipping, condition and seller rating side by side. Prices are pulled live, so what you see is what sellers are actually asking this minute.
Live from eBayEvery MacBook ranked by multi-core performance per dollar, using Geekbench 6 scores and today's cheapest live price. Lower cost per 1000 points is better value for editing, compiling and heavy multitasking. Scores are for the standard chip in each model; Pro and Max configurations perform higher, and remember the fanless Air throttles on long workloads. Tap a model to see its listings.

Apple Silicon changed the used market completely. The M1, M2 and later chips are so much faster and more efficient than the old Intel MacBooks that a used M1 is a better buy than a newer-looking Intel model at the same price. As a rule, buy the oldest Apple Silicon Mac you can rather than the newest Intel one; check the chip in the listing (it should say M1 or later).
Check the battery cycle count and coverage. Under System Settings the battery cycle count reveals real use; MacBook batteries are rated for around 1,000 cycles, so a count in the low hundreds means plenty of life. Ask for a screenshot. Also confirm the Mac is not tied to the seller's Apple ID and that Activation Lock / Find My is turned off, exactly as with an iPhone, or it cannot be set up.
Buy enough RAM and storage up front. On modern MacBooks the memory and SSD are soldered and cannot be upgraded later, so choose a configuration with headroom: 16GB of RAM is the comfortable minimum today and 512GB of storage saves you juggling external drives. Paying a little more used for a better spec beats buying a cheap 8GB/256GB model you outgrow in a year.
Used vs refurbished. Apple's own Certified Refurbished Macs come with a full warranty at a modest discount; private used sales are cheaper still, typically 30-45% below new for recent models. Inspect the screen for stains or dead pixels, test the keyboard and every port, and prefer sellers who accept returns.

Yes. MacBooks are well-built and age gracefully. Favour high-feedback sellers, check battery cycles in System Report, verify returns accepted, and lean on eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
Usually 30-50% below new. Older models drop hardest once a newer generation launches; current M3 models hold value longest.
Total price with shipping, seller feedback and sales count, returns policy, stated condition, battery cycle count, and original box and power adapter status. It's all shown next to each listing.
A daily snapshot of the lowest genuine eBay price for every model we track, and how good that price is right now versus its usual level, updated automatically. Prices last refreshed 31 July 2026 . Tap a model above for the full live list.
"Off retail" compares today's used price with what the model cost new. For models still on sale that is the current price; for discontinued ones it is the launch price, so it shows how far the model has depreciated rather than a discount you could get on a new one.
