E-Signature Software, Compared

Two traps decide the real cost and most comparisons ignore both: document limits (cheap plans that cap how many you can send) and per-user pricing (a hidden multiplier for teams). This ranks tools by price with both flagged.

Indicative entry pricing (annual billing) as last reviewed 11 July 2026. Plans and limits change, confirm current terms. Prices are per user unless marked flat; document caps apply where shown.

How to read this. Documents shows whether a plan is unlimited or capped (DocuSign's cheap plan limits you to a handful a month). Pricing shows flat (one price for the whole team) versus per user (multiplies with headcount). The cheapest sticker price is not always cheapest in practice: a capped or per-user plan can cost far more once you send regularly or add people. For solo use almost any works; for teams, unlimited + flat wins.

Cheapest e-signature tool?

SignWell (~$10/mo) for unlimited signing, Zignt (~$12/mo flat, unlimited users), or self-hosted DocuSeal for free. PandaDoc has a genuinely free plan with unlimited eSignatures. Sort by price above.

Why does DocuSign cost more than it looks?

Its cheap Personal plan caps you at ~5 documents/month, so real users need the $25/user Standard plan, and it is per user, so teams multiply fast. Rivals often give unlimited documents, some at a flat rate.

Per-user vs flat pricing?

Per-user charges per team member (grows with headcount); flat charges one price regardless (Zignt, self-hosted DocuSeal). For teams, flat + unlimited is usually cheapest.
