Looking up what one tool costs usually means opening its pricing page, decoding three tiers and an annual-billing discount, and still not knowing whether it is dear. This is every tool and service we track, in one list, with the price it actually starts at and what that price is per. The numbers come straight from our category comparisons, so a figure here is the same figure there.

Every price is the same figure used on our full comparison for that category, so the two cannot disagree. Watch the unit: some are monthly, some per user, per gigabyte or one-off, and it says which on every line. Web hosting is shown at its RENEWAL price, because the intro price is the one that misleads.

Free almost always means capped on something (users, contacts, projects, bandwidth), and the category comparison spells out which. How this is worked out. For every model we track, we take the cheapest genuine listing on eBay right now and compare it against that model's new retail price. The number in the table is the median across all models in the category, not the best case, so one unusually cheap listing cannot flatter a whole category.
What "new" means here, honestly. For models still on sale, it is the current price. For older models it is what that model sold for new, because you often cannot buy one new at all any more. An iPhone 11 against $699 is a comparison with its launch price, not with something Apple still sells. That is the standard way depreciation is quoted and it is the number a used buyer actually wants, but it does mean the biggest savings naturally sit on the oldest models, so read the category median rather than the single best example.
We leave out anything with no meaningful new price at all. That is why you will not find retired LEGO, designer handbags or vintage cameras here: those often resell for more than they cost new, so a "saving" would be nonsense.
How to read this
Read the unit, not just the number. A $1 price means very different things per month, per user, per gigabyte and one-off, so every row says which. Two tools with the same headline figure can differ by an order of magnitude once you use them properly.
"Starts at" is the entry paid plan. It is where the bill begins, not where it lands. Several categories here charge a percentage on top of the monthly fee, and for those the category comparison works out the real total at your size.
Free means genuinely free, not a trial. Where a tool has a free tier we show Free, but a free tier almost always carries caps on users, volume or features, and the category page spells those out.
Common questions
Is this the price I will actually pay?
It is what the entry paid plan costs, which is where the bill starts rather than where it lands. Several categories here also take a percentage of what you sell on top, and the category comparison for each works out the real total at your size.
Why do some rows say per user, per gigabyte or one-off?
Because that is what the vendor charges for. A $10 monthly tool and a $10 per-user tool are wildly different once you have a team, so every row states its own unit rather than pretending they are all comparable.
Why is web hosting shown at the renewal price?
Because the introductory price is the misleading one. Hosts advertise a low first term and renew several times higher, so the renewal figure is what you will actually be paying from the second year onwards. Antivirus and VPNs are shown the same way, for the same reason.
What does "price on request" mean?
The vendor only quotes privately, which is normal for enterprise products. It is not the same as free, so those rows are marked rather than shown as $0, which would put an enterprise LMS at the top of a cheapest list.
